This is a jewel of a museum that more people should know about. The collection is amazing - not just the family carriages you might expect, but all sorts of working horse-drawn vehicles, from doctors' gigs and tradesmen's wagons to fire engines and sleighs. They are all beautifully restored and displayed with lots of room around them.

The Carriage Museum is next door to the Schwartz's Tavern Museum, an eighteenth-century tavern which is both lovely and educational. In addition to authentic period furnishings, it has one of the most interesting staircases you'll ever hope to see.

Admission to both is free and kid-friendly. They are worth a trip to go see them.
